FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is the range of the G2?
We say 250+ miles with confidence, as this was our experience throughout the testing process and a long road trip around Michigan in conditions that were far from perfect. Results will vary depending on the weather, how you drive, and the road surface you drive on.
  • How does the modular system work?
Using our aluminum rail system, modules securely attach to the vehicle for use, but they can be removed and swapped around with ease. Grounded utilises a grid system to split up the interior spaces of our vehicles. The G2's grid is 8 squares long, meaning you can go through our library of components, which includes modules that are one, two, or three squares, and arrange whatever components you like, as long as it adds up to be no more than 8 modules long along each side of the van. We will talk you through this process on a call, and ensure you get the perfect layout for your needs.
  • What are the dimensions?
The interior living space dimensions of the G2 are 158" long, 76" wide, 78.5" tall (at tallest ceiling point). The exterior vehicle dimensions of the G2 are: 290" long, 106.2" wide (including mirrors, 120" tall.
  • Does it have an indoor shower/bathroom?
Yes, it can do! Module options include a standalone dry-flush toilet module that takes up one square, or a wet-room module (including a toilet and indoor shower) that takes up two squares.
  • Is there a design tool available?
We're working on it! Our online design tool is being developed and will be live on our website soon. Until then, our team will hop on a call with you to discuss your use-cases, needs, and desires, and we will create a custom layouts and 3D visualizations to show you how your G2 layout will look.
  • What is the warranty?
The vehicle chassis comes with a 3 year/36,000 mile (whichever comes first) bumper to bumper warranty, including tires, as well as an 8 year/100,000 mile (whichever comes first) electric vehicle propulsion warranty. Grounded also provides a 1 year warranty on all interior modules and components.
  • How does the Grounded G2 compare to a gas-powered camper van?
An electric vehicle means little-to-no-maintenance, ever. A small handful of moving parts instead of the hundreds of moving parts in an internal combution engine. Breakdowns on the road virtually become a thing of the past. Oh, and you don't have to pay for gas anymore.
  • Is it more expensive to operate an electric RV compared to a traditional gas-powered campervan?
No, in fact an electric campervan should be considerably cheaper. There is far less maintenance with an electrical vehicle compared to an internal combustion engine, so say goodbye to expensive repair bills. The cost of charging an EV is estimated to be 3 times cheaper per mile than fuelling a gas-powered vehicle.
  • How does the performance of a G2 compare to a gas-powered campervan? (Copy)
Generally, electric vehicles can accelerate faster than internal combustion engines - we've had some fun testing this in our prototype vehicles! What's particularly beneficial to the G2 as an electric campervan is the fact that electric motors are much smoother and quieter than a rumbling engine, both when driving and when idling. The G2 also has all-wheel drive, which means climbing up steep inclines is a breeze!
  • How do I customize my G2?
Once you place your deposit, our team will get in touch with you to walk you through the purchase process, hear more about what you want to get out of your G2, and work with you to create a layout that will suit you best.
  • How big is the battery in the G2?
The G2 is built on the BrightDrop Zevo platform, so it features a 173kWh high voltage vehicle battery for vehicle propulsion and an additional 10kWh house battery that powers everything in the living space, such as lights and outlets. The vehicle battery can charge the house battery and, if you're in a pinch, the house battery can charge the vehicle battery.
  • Do I need a special license to drive the G2?
No, you can hop right in and drive off with a standard driving license.
  • How much noise does the G2 make?
Electric vehicles are much quieter than internal combustion engine vehicles, so you can drive your G2 into the campsite late at night without waking your neighbours. If you want to make noise, the speakers do get pretty loud.
  • What appliances does the kitchen include?
The kitchen includes a faucet and sink, a fridge/freezer, and an induction stove. There are also standard outlets in the G2, so you can plug in any extra appliances you want, like a kettle or a toaster.
  • What maintenance is required?
For the vehicle, basically none. Thank you EVs. For the camper interior, also basically none. Our goal is to improve manufacturing processes of a decades-old RV industry that has gradually declined in manufacturing quality. This means our RV components won't break down over time the same way traditional RVs do. Thanks to the modular nature of our interiors, if you do feel you have used a module to its limit, you can easily swap out or upgrade that specific component without having to get a whole new van, a big win for the environment and your wallet!
  • Where can I charge my G2?
Grounded G2's can be charged at any outlet or EV charger, from Level 1 (regular wall outlet) to Level 2 (at-home fast chargers) to Level 3 chargers (DC Fast Chargers found at charging stations around the country). That means you can charge it in your garage, on the road, or at campsites with power. Also, the G2 will have solar panels on top that will allow you to charge small amounts from the sun every day. Solar power is inherently limited by surface area, and since the roof of the van is relatively small (much smaller than, say, a house roof), it would take many, many days of consecutive solar charging to get close to a full vehicle charge. But, there's peace of mind in knowing that even if you are literally out in the desert, the vehicle can slowly recharge itself. True offgrid capability. Sweet.
  • Can I charge the G2 using solar power?
Yes, the solar panels on the G2 can charge both the house battery that powers the lighting and appliances as well as the vehicle battery that powers the vehicle motors. It will take a long time to charge the vehicle battery using only solar power, however, so it is usually best to plug it in to charge.
  • How does the Grounded G1 camper van compare to a gas-powered camper van?
An electric vehicle means little-to-no-maintenance, ever. A small handful of moving parts instead of the hundreds of moving parts in an internal combution engine. Breakdowns on the road virtually become a thing of the past. Oh, and you don't have to pay for gas anymore.
  • How far will the G1 go on a single charge?
We estimate up to 108 miles of range on a single charge. Of Course, this number varies depending on how you drive, the conditions you drive in, and the terrain you drive on.
  • Is it more expensive to operate an electric campervan compared to a traditional gas-powered campervan?
No, in fact an electric campervan should be considerably cheaper. • Can the electric campervan be used off-grid, or does it require a constant source of electricity?
Thanks to the solar panels on the G1, it is possible to exist completely off grid. Due to the size of the panels, it will take a long time to charge the vehicle battery solely through solar, so it is recommended that you charge the vehicle battery by plugging it in.
  • How much storage is there in the G1?
Generally, lots. This does vary depending on the layout options you choose, but the interior modules include a spacious garage area at the back of the van, pull out drawer storage under beds, under seat storage, and overhead cabinets.
